Haryana Travel Guide

Located in the Northern part of India, Haryana is bound by Uttar Pradesh in the east, Punjab in the west, Himachal Pradesh in the north and Rajasthan in the South. The national capital territory of Delhi is next to Haryana. Haryana is situated between the latitude 30.30° North and longitude 74.60° East.The small state of Haryana, spread over an area of over 44,000 square kilometers, was founded in 1966 when the former state of Punjab was divided into Haryana and the modern Punjab. It is both the oldest and most modern of places. Haryana is proud of a rich cultural heritage that goes way back to the Vedic times. The state is rich in folklore. The people of Haryana have their own traditions. The age old customs of meditation, Yoga and chanting of Vedic Mantras, are still observed by the masses. The seasonal and religious festivals glorify the culture of this region. The dance is said to be the mother of all arts. Music and poetry exist in tune, painting and architecture in space. The dance is just not a form of recreation but something needed to release the physical and emotional energy. Folk dances, like other creative art, helps in sublimating the performer's worries and cares. Historically, Haryana goes back to Mahabharat times, for it was here, at Kurukshetra, that the war was fought. On the Mahabharata war battlefield, Lord Krishna preached his divine message the Bhagavad Gita, to Arjuna. Haryana has a network of 43 tourist complexes, named after birds. These have been set up along the national/state highways and at districts, towns and at places around Delhi. Haryanvis are simple, straight-forward, enterprising and hard-working. Preserving their old religious and social traditions, they celebrate their festivals with traditional fervour. The region has its popular folklores, folksongs and musical instruments.

The women are devoted and diligent and assist their men-folk on the farms. The people have simple food habits. They are known for their love for cattle and the abudance of milk and curd in their diet. Haryana`s highways are replete with landscaped gardens, shops and hotels that prove to be weekend getaway for people of Delhi and neighbouring states. This state could well be called a perfect vacation land: A state that blazed a trail of holiday traditions, with its highway tourism policy. The state of Haryana has three major seasons. The summers are the hottest months (April to June) when the mercury normally remains over 40°C. This is followed by the monsoon, which continues from July to September. The average annual rainfall in the state is 580 mm. The winter months are extremely cold with the temperature hovering around 5°C most of the time from November to February.

There is a good road network in the state that connects all the places in Haryana to each other as well as from the places outside the state boundary like Delhi, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh.
