Long before Pahalgam, a village 96 km east of Srinagar and 2,400 metres above sea level, turned into the popular holiday resort it is today, it was the preserve of nomadic shepherds. The beauty of Pahalgam remains unspoilt even as the crowded main street, an assorted range of tented camps, hotels and lodges have turned it into a resort.
