The City Palace of Udaipur
The largest palace complex of Rajasthan, 304 metres in height and 244 metres in length was started by Udai Singh and subsequently built upon by later ruler. The main part of the palace is now preserved as the City Palace Museum with a large and varied collection of artefacts. Enter the City Palace Museum through the Ganesh Deari, which leads to the Rajya Angan or Royal Courtyard. The museum is open daily from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Admission Price: adults; childresn between 7-12 (through the Badipol antrance) or (through the Bansi Ghat entreance). There is also a video cam¬era charge of and still camera. In Lake Pichola are two is¬lands - Jagniwas and Jag-mandir. Boats leave regularly from the City Palace jetty and cost per person for 30 minutes, for 45 minutes that also includes a short stop on Jag Mandir is¬land. A one hour Solar boat ride costs per person. Boat trips are available be¬tween 10.00 and 17.00 hrs.
Udaipur : By Rail
Udaipur is on the Western Railway me¬tre-gauge network. It is connected by rail with Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Chittaur, Jodh¬pur and Ahmedabad. The railway station
is 4 km from the city centre.
Udaipur : Local Transport
A five-hour taxi starts at RTDC's Ho¬tel Kajri at 8 am every day. It costs (excluding entry charges to sites) and covers all the main sights in the city. Depending on demand, an afternoon tour (2-7 pm) goes to Eklingji, Hal-dighati and Nathdwara and costs. For more details, contact the Tourist Re¬ception Centre at The Tourist Reception Centre is located in the Fateh Memorial Building near Surajpol, less than 1 km from the bus stand. The office is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 1.30 pm and from 2 to 5 pm.
