Jaisalmer is connected to Jodhpur by a broad gauge line via Phalodi on two-train services, one a passenger and the other an express. It is an overnight journey through some of the remotest, most desolate parts of Rajasthan, with stations far and few in between.

Jaisalmer is connected by good roads to Jodhpur (285 km), Bikaner via Pokran (330 km), and Barmer via Devikot (153 km). RaŽjasthan Roadways' buses connect Jaisalmer with important towns like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Barmer. Jodhpur is on the Western Railway broad-gauge network and is linked to various centres in the region by express and passenger trains. Some important links are those that connect with New Delhi, Agra, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Train journeys are usually long because of the distances involved, and it is advisable to carry light snacks as most stations en route do not serve much by way of food. Excellent connection to Jaipur by Inter City Express (4.5 hours), connected to Delhi by a Superfast overnight train, Mandore Express, connected to Calcutta by Howrah Express.
