Siliserh : Rajasthan
A bund, 15 km southwest of Alwar, was constructed by Maharaja Vin-ey Singh in 1845 on a tributary of the Ru-parel river. Silisherh is a beautiful lake, covering an area of 7 sq km, adorned with domed cenotaphs and an ideal place for fishing and boating.
Located almost midway between Delhi (120 km) and Jaipur (138 km), it is best to arrive at Neemrana Fort Palace by car. There are coach services on the national highway but as Neemrana is off the main road, the remaining 2-km journey will have to be covered on foot as public transport is not available.
The oldest and one of the finest among India’s heritage hotels, Neemrana Fort Palace has 41 rooms, each decorated in individual style with period furniture, private open terraces and courtyards so that residents can sit outside for tea or relaxation. The rooms are all different, the Sheesh Mahal luxurious with printed glass on windows and a private corridor all around, the Shikar Mahal, on the other hand, is a hunting tent pitched on one of the roofs, the furniture being of the fold-and-carry variety. There is Francisi Mahal, recreating French colonial decor.
One of the nicest aspects of Neemrana is its dining. The cuisine is Indian (specially Rajasthani) and Continental (speciality French), and every meal is different. Visitors can borrow books from the library. There are tracks on the hill and an 18th-century step well to visit, apart from blissful peace to savour.
