Jaipur : Rajasthan

Jaipur, the magical city carved out of the desert, still blushes pinh even 273 years later after it was founded by Maharajah Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727. It is the only city in the world symbolising the nine divisions of the universe through nine rectangular sectors subdividing it according to the principles laid down in the ‘Shilpa Shastra’, the ancient Indian treatise on architecture. The city is today a unique synthesis of the traditional sinel the modern. Apart from being the state capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is also a bustling trading centre with colourful bazaars and people and a land dominated by festivals and fairs. Jaipur is also a city of contrasts - the new city has spacious roads alotted with upmaricet luxury showrooms and the old city abounds with narrow congested streets, bazaars and artisan’s quarters. This part of town is a fascinating place to wander around, especially at sunset- ProvidŽing a stunning backdrop to the city are the ancient forts and palaces which create a dramatic picture of a bygone era.
