Though the main tourist attractions of the town are within distance of the bus stand, Chaugan (the heart of town) and hotels, tourist taxis are available for excursions and outlying localities of Chamba.

Chamba has a long tradition of handi¬crafts many of which originated during the mughal period. Of these, the chamba ru-mal, the chamba chappal, metal craft and miniature paintings are the most famous.
Chamba rumal, an exquisitely embroi¬dered piece of fabric, previously silk or cotton and in varying sizes, was originally used as a covering for gifts offered to roy¬alty or aristocracy. Chamba: Excursions
Bharmour (65 km): once adorned with 84 exquisitely carved temples of which only about a score remain, bharmour is the erstwhile capital of chamba. At a height of 2,141 m, it is also the home of the semi-no¬madic gaddi people, a shepherd tribe.
Manimahesh (93 km): this sacred lake (4,183 m) at the base of the manimahesh kail-ash mountain (5,656 m) is associated with shi¬va and is the site of an annual pilgrimage.
Chatrari (45 km): an attractive temple dedicated to shakti devi is located here.
Chamba By road
The road access to chamba, from pathankot or places in himachal pradesh, like shimla, manali, dharamshala, etc, is similar to dalhousie except from banikhet the state highway continues left to cham¬ba (50 km). Some road distances to impor¬tant places beyond chamba are: bharmour 65 km, tissa 56 km.

Chamba town (915 m) on the banks of the ravi river, was one of the oldest princely states in the country dating back to the sixth century. It is known for its splendid architecture and as the base for numerous excursions. It is also the district headquarters. In winter, the temperature gets very low although it gets hot in summer, often as high as 38 degrees celsius.
