Andretta (14 km): Home of artists Norah Richards, Sobha Singh and B.C. Sanyal. In Sobha Singh’s home, now a gallery, several of his works are dis¬played. There is also a pottery and crafts centre at Andretta.
Kangra Fort (27 km): The most impor¬tant fort of the region, is enclosed by high ramparts with a parameter of about 4 km. Built about 1,000 years ago on the conflu¬ence of the Banganga and Manjhi rivers.
Sujanpur Tira (42 km): Built in 1758, the Tira fortress has remains of halls, palaces and temples. The town of Sujan¬pur below the fort has many temples, of which Barbadeshwar and Murli Mano-har are unique.
Tashijong (12 km) & Bir (24 km): Ti¬betan monasteries.
Baijnath (15 km): At Baijnath Temple, Shiva is revered as Vaidyanath (Lord of Physicians). Inscribed with intricate carv¬ings, it is said Ravana supplicated Shiva for the boon of immortality here.
Jwalamukhi: An important pilgrimage of Kangra Valley centred around a temple built over a rock through the cracks of which a sacred flame emanates. Known as Jwalaji, the temple is a prominent Shakti peeth of the country.

Getting to Palampur
Palampur is 38 km from the district headquarters town, dharamshala, on nh 20 towards mandi, and 35 km from kangra town. Access options are common to both. However, by road from delhi another route is via ambala, ludhiana and phagwara (on nh 1), hoshiarpur, mubarakpur (joining with chandigarh-una-dehra gopipur route), kangra and palampur. Though 10 km longer (535 km), it offers easier driving on double-carriageway nh1 till phagwara.
Himachal road transport corporation runs a semi-deluxe coach from delhi (isbt) to palampur, via chandigarh, everyday.
