Between May and October, tl Dhauladhar ranges offer an exciting variety of trekking and rock climbing. The Mountaineering Institute has its branch at McLeodganj. Dharamsala to Chamba, over Indrahar Pass, Minkiani Pass, Balenijot and Bhimghasutri Pass. Dharamsala to Manimahesh over the Talang Pass. Palampur to Dharamsala over the Indrahar Pass, Baijnath to Manali over the Thamsar Pass.
Fishing: The 20-km stretch of the Beas river between Nadaun and the Pong Dam offers excellent opportunities.

The nearest airport is at Gaggal, 13 km from Dharamshala and 23 km from McLe¬odganj. Indian Airlines/Allaince Air con¬nects Gaggal airport with Delhi. However, the flight is subject to conducive weather conditions. Taxis are available from the airport to Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur and other centres of the valley. The charg¬es are negotiable.

Kangra Valley is between the Dhauladhar range and the Shiwalik foothills. It spreads northwest from near Mandi to Jassur near Pathankot. Though named after Kangra town, the largest town is Oharamsala (1,830 m) followed by Palampur (1,249 m). The valley is famous for the Kangra school of miniature paintings. 11 km from Dharamsala and surrounded by deodar trees, the lake is an enchanting picnic spot. Accessible by motor road.
