The nearest airport is at Gaggal, 13 km from Dharamshala and 23 km from McLe¬odganj. Indian Airlines/Allaince Air con¬nects Gaggal airport with Delhi. However, the flight is subject to conducive weather conditions. Taxis are available from the airport to Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur and other centres of the valley. The charg¬es are negotiable.

Kangra Valley is on the narrow gauge rail network between Pathankot (nearest broad gauge railhead) and Jogindernagar. Kangra Mandir Railway Station is the near¬est point for Dharamsala (22 km). The jour¬ney from Pathankot takes four hours. Transfer to/from Dharamsala from the rail¬way station costs by taxi.
Pathankot (on the Delhi-Jammu main line), however, is the nearest convenient broad-gauge railway station and is con¬nected to Delhi and many other cities in the country with express and super-fast trains.
