Shopping in Maheshwar
Maheshwari sarees are the main draw. Rani Ahilyabai is credited with in¬troducing this uniquely woven saree 250 years ago. The fabric used is cotton and the saree has a plain body, at times with j stripes or checks in variable patterns. Leaf and floral patterns decorate the bor¬ders which are reversible (known as ‘bugdi’). The ‘pallu’ is particularly distinc¬tive with five stripes, three coloured and two white, running alternating across its width.
