Periyar National Park Has An Area Of 777 Sq Km (300 Sq Miles), And Lies In The Western Ghats Between 914m And 1828m (2999 Ft And 5997 Ft) Above Sea Level. Kanha National Park
Situated 173 km away from Jabalpur, the Kanha Na¬tional Park forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. Spread over an area of 940 sq km, it is the only habitat of the rare wmsingha (Cervus Duvaceli Branderi). The best places to view the animals -blackbuck and chital - are the meadows around Kanha.

Bandhavgarh National Park
202 km. The park is on the eastern fringes of the Vindhyanchal range that divides the northern plains from the Deccan plateau. The park is known to have the highest density of tigers in India and gained fame for producing the first white tigers ever to have been found in the wild. An¬other attraction of Bandhavgarh is the fort, thought to be some 2,000 years old, and a storehouse of ancient sculptures.
The closest airport is Khajuraho (237 km). For access, the railway stations are Ja¬balpur, Kami (100 km), Satna (120 km) and Umaria (33 km). Taxis are available.
Velavadar National : Gujarat
Velavadar pro¬tects a large population of blackbuck, the en¬dangered Indian wolf, one of the world’s larg¬est roosts of harrier hawks, and breeding sites of the lesser florican. Gir Lion Reserve: Gujarat
Gir Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, a 1412 sq km complex of deciduous forests, acacia scrub, grasslands and wetlands, is the last abode of the Asiatic lion in the world. Gir also has a large popula¬tion of panther (leopard). The hill tracts of Gir sanctuary offer pleasant drives along rivers, streams and grassy glades where sambar, spotted deer, blue bull, Indian gazelle and the world’s only four-homed antelope are abun¬dant.
