The 128 Sq Km (49 Sq Miles) Sanctuary Was Declared In 1958. It Is Only 32km (20 Miles) From Trivandrum And Is A Popular Place With Indian Tourists For Picnics. From Early Morning There Is A Bus About Every Hour To Neyyar Dam. On The 9 Sq Km (3 Sq Miles) Lake You Can Hire Boats. Even Though Elephants, Crocodiles, Sloths, Nilgiri Thar, Wild Dogs, Tigers ^D Leopards Are Supposed To Live Here, Don’t Expect Too Much.

There Is An Exceptional Bus Service From Ernakulam To Alleppey, Quilon And Trivandrum. Buses Depart For Trivandrum (223km-139 Miles) Day And Night For Around 35Rs For The 6 Hour Trip. There Is Also A Rail Service Via Kottayam And Quilon To Trivandrum.
From nagercoil take bus 11 or bus 29. Inside the fort walls is the town of the same name. I had hardly set foot inside the fort and i was in front of the palace of the former kings of travancore, who still live in trivandrum. The palace is now a museum and is well worth a visit (you can even see a king's toilet)! Few tourists, but plenty of guides.
The Capital Of Kerala Has A Population Of 500,000, And Not Much Worth Seeing. It Is Rather A Clean And (For India) Prosperous Looking Town. It Is The Jumping Off Point For The Famous Kovalam Beach And There Are Flights From Here To Sri Lanka And To The Maldives.
Between kannyakumari and kovalam is kolachal beach which is supposed to be worth visiting. The. 567 sq km (219 sq miles) tiger sanctuary at mundanthurai is practically undiscovered.
