Cape comorin is the land’s end of india. There is nothing between there and antarctica but water. Three bodies of water meet at cape comorin (kannyakumari): the arabian sea, the gulf of bengal and the indian ocean. The sun rises out of the raw sea the whole year round, and in winter sets in the windy and often stormy sea. It is a popular destination with indian tourists and pilgrims, who don’t come to see the different coloured sand, but to visit the vivekananda memorial.

There are many lodges and hotels in walking distance of the bus terminal (the railway station is in the suburbs). If you want a room with a view of the cape, then you should go to one of the mostly clean, new, multi-storey hotels which are only a little more expensive than some of the rundown, old lodges, where you will only have a view of someone's backyard. Darsana tourist
On an island south-east of the cape is the main attraction of kan-nyakumari: the vivekananda rock memorial. It was built in 1970 in honour of swami vivekananda. Boats go to the island between 7-1 lam and 2-5pm (cost 3rs), but not in bad weather. Photography is prohibited on the island as well as on the journey across.
Gandhi memorial: the ashes of mahatma gandhi were stored here before they were scattered on the ocean. The memorial was built so that on the 2nd october (his birthday) the rays of the sun fall on the place where his ashes once rested.

Food
Fish is surprisingly rare. Try the dates. I saw the most southern mouse in india run through the dining room while eating my 5rs meal in the hotel ajantha.
Souvenirs
There is row after row of souvenir shops in the centre of kannykumari. They sell shell necklaces, shells of all sizes, dried sea urchins and other animals of the sea. If you don't want to support the plunder of the ocean, you can perhaps buy some material or bamboo mats with pictures of the landscape or gods on them.
