Jaipur By Rail
An excellent connection to Delhi is by the Shatabdi Express (four and a half-hour run). Other connections to Jaipur are from Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Secunderabad and Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. Trains originating from Jaipur link the city with Mumbai, Calcutta, Sawai Madhopur and Kota. The Jaipur Railway Station is in the heart of town and has computerised reserva¬tion facilities.
The reservation office is open Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 2 pm and 2.15 to 8 pm on Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm is for advance reservations only. Reservations for freedom fighters and foreign tourists is done at Counter 769. For metre-gauge trains, the booking office is on platform.
Jaipur By Road
A convenient mode of travel to Jaipur is by road, through a network of tourist buses that are reasonably comfortable. The short journey provides comprehensive tourist fa¬cilities en route to the ‘Pink City’, which forms the third tip of the golden tourist triangle with Agra and Delhi. It is located on National Highways 8 (Delhi-Ahmedabad-Mumbai) and 11 (Agra-Bikaner). For those arriving from Agra, the most convenient rest and refreshment point is Mahua; and for those coining from Delhi, the central resting point is Behror. There is another rest spot at Dharuhera. These midway points have fast food restaurants, repair facilities (basic), cloak rooms, bars and accommoda¬tion for overnight stay.

Deluxe coach services to Delhi, Agra, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Mt. Abu, Bikaner, Chittorga rh, Kota, Bharatpur and Ahmedabad are run by Rajasthan State Transport Corporation (RSTC). Many private agencies also operate deluxe bus services to many of the above cities. A bunch of travel agencies are located along Motilal Atal Marg near Polo Victory Cinema.
Buses between destinations are operated by the road corporations of Rajasthan, Hary-ana and tourist buses by operators such as ITDC and others. There is one RSTC service to Ahmedabad.

Jaipur local transport
Jaipur is a sprawling city where move¬ment is restricted without transport. For pur¬poses of sightseeing, tourist taxis and RTDC buses are available. City sightseeing tours by coach are conducted by RTDC. RTDC also arranges cars on hire at fixed rates.
Cars and drivers can be hired through the travel agencies.
Self-drive rental cars can be hired at the Hertz office which has a desk at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Amber Rd.
There are no metered taxis. But insist on paying by the meter when using three-wheeler auto-rickshaws. Almost all deluxe and standard hotels have a travel desk to help with car-hire and arrangements for sightseeing. Taxi stands are situated main¬ly at all the gates on M.I. Road.
If you wish to hire an autorickshaw for a half-day sightseeing tour (including Am¬ber), expect to pay around for a hill day. Three wheelers can also be hired on per hour or for Bicycles can be hired from most bike shops. They can also be hired from the shops, to the right as you exit the main train station, a few steps past the reservation office. The charge is per hr/day.
Eating Out in Jaipur
The state capital typifies the cuisine available by and large in Rajasthan. A paradox is that while the Rajputs are non-vegetarian, the Marwari vegetarian community has seen to the establishment of a large number of vegetarian restaurants as well. Local specialities include a number of chickpea flour gravies, but the favourite is Dal-Bati-Choorma, - small bun-like pieces filled with clarified butter roasted in live coals, cereals and sweetened bread pudding that is dry and flaky.
The non-vegetarian speciality is soola, or barbecued meats marinated with a local vegetable that lends it piquancy. Count on the chillies being on the high side.
