Hoary Past
In the ancient period the areas of Koraput district formed part of the Dandak forest. In the middle of the seventeenth century it’s capital shifted from Nandapur to Jeypore. Later Koraput was chosen by the Britishers in 1810 A.D. for better health prospects. The name Koraput is derived from Karakapentho. Korak literally means hail-stone.
